The Desktop Optimizer allows you to perform several
functions to improve the performance of the Lotus Notes client. The
items included in the Desktop Optimizer will resolve the most
common issues experienced by Lotus Notes users.
Desktop Optimizer Options
The following options can be selected when running the Destop
Optimizer:
- Delete Cache File (cache.ndk)
- The cache file (cache.ndk) stores the design elements (forms,
subforms, navigators, scripts, etc.) for databases locally. This
speeds up access to commonly used design elements. The cache file
is created automatically whenever Notes starts, if the file does
not already exist.
- The cache file can become corrupt or too large causing problems
with the Lotus Notes client. These problems include a reduction in
performance and databases displaying or behaving incorrectly.
- Deleting the cache file can resolve these issues.
- Delete Log File (log.nsf)
- The log file (log.nsf) reports detailed information of all user
activity on the Lotus Notes client. The log file is created
automatically when you start the Lotus Notes client for the first
time.
- The log file can become corrupt causing a drastic reduction in
the performance of the Lotus Notes client.
- Deleting the cache file can resolve this issue.
- Delete Mail Box (mail.box)
- The mail router database (mail.box) holds mail messages until
they are sent to their destination. When the mail message has been
processed, it is deleted from the database. The mail router
database is created automatically whenever Notes starts, if the
file does not already exist.
- The mail router database can become corrupted causing mail
routing to stop.
- Deleting the mail routing database can resolve this issue.
- Compact Desktop (desktop.dsk)
- The desktop.dsk file holds all the relevant information about
your Lotus Notes client workspace, including workspace tabs,
database icons, etc.
- The desktop.dsk file can become corrupt or too large causing
the workspace to behave incorrectly.
- Compacting the desktop.dsk file can resolve this issue.
- Fix Database Errors (Fixup)
- Update Indexes (Updall)
- Compact Databases (Compact)
- Delete Personal Web Navigator
- The personal web navigator database (perweb.nsf) is used as
page and resource cache for web pages viewed through the Lotus
Notes client. The personal web navigator is created automatically
when you start the Lotus Notes, if the file does not already
exist.
- The personal web navigator can become corrupt or too large
causing performance issues.
- Deleting the personal web navigator can resolve these
issues.
